Math Course Descriptions/数学课程简介:


数学竞赛班G7-12:

数学竞赛班(G7-12)专门是为参加AMC8/10/12 (美国数学竞赛), CEMC(滑铁卢系列数学竞赛G7-12),以及 COMC等数学竞赛的学生提供系统的学习辅导。我们将通过系统地讲解知识点,结合历年的考题来给学生打下坚实的基础,为参加各个数学竞赛做好准备, 希望学生们能考出好的成绩,为将来申请大学及奖学金做预备。



新加坡数学G1-G8:

我们使用新加坡数学US Dimension版,这是基于新加坡的数学教学和学习模式专门为北美的学生设计的。新加坡学生的数学成绩,在国际上排名几乎是年年第一名。这个教材是基于理解知识,建立模型,解决问题的程序来学习数学。有足量的练习和实践探索。我们会使用ICALC数学教学思想来教授课程。


数学菁英班G1-G6: 

是基于新加坡数学教学大纲和教学方法,结合数学竞赛(包括Kangaroo数学竞赛)内容,旨在为1到6年级的孩子提供系统的数学辅导,并帮助学生理解数学概念的本质。真正有效地提高在校成绩并为有志参加数学竞赛的学生做好准备。


Pre-IB 数学备考班G6 &7:

针对准备申请IB program 的7年级和6年级的学生,因为8年级的学生需要在11月份参加Pre-IB 入学考试的。


Math Grade7&8:  

是为7,8年级的学生提供系统的数学辅导。


Math Grade9&10:  

是9,10年级的学生提供系统的数学辅导。


Functions: 

这门课是11年级的数学课之一,主要学习函数的性质,初步介绍指数函数,离散函数,三角函数等,是学习12年级数学advanced functions 和 calculus的基础。有10年级数学基础的学生都可以参加。 


Advanced Functions: 

这门课是12 年级的数学课之一, 进一步学习多项式,有理函数,三角函数,指数函数,对数函数等的表达式,图像,性质等。 它是 AP Calculus的预备课,也是多数专业的必修课,有11年级数学基础的学生都可以参加。


Calculus: 

这门课也是12年级的数学课之一, 主要学习微积分和向量。 这门课是AP Calculus 的预备课,也是多数工程系要求的必修课,有11年级数学基础的学生都可以参加。 




English Reading&Writing Course Descriptions/英文阅读写作课简介:

The Reading & Writing course at ICALC is designed for students who enjoy writing as a form of art as well as who want to improve their writing skills. Students will read and discuss articles on the craft of writing. They will evaluate the effectiveness of various literary genres and engage in a series of writing workshops. In the end, students will familiarize themselves with different types of writing such as descriptive writing and persuasive writing. The course can also be viewed as a supplement for the English course at school.

We will be doing a reading class and a writing class alternatively each week.

During reading classes, we will be using the textbook Worldly Wise 3000. It focuses on vocabulary instruction, helping students build their vocabulary. Then there will also be a reading material each week to help students put vocabulary in context and apply the meanings.

 

During writing classes, we will be using two learning materials:  Daily 6-Trait Writing and Spectrum Writing. The teacher will prepare handouts for students. Students will explore 3 main topics of writing: writing a story, writing to inform, and writing an argument.

 


Grades 1-2:

Grades 5-6:

We will review the basic grammar rules and apply conventions of standard English. Students will demonstrate clarity of language during their performance of writing.


Grades 7-8:

Students are expected to understand the basic structure of both persuasive and descriptive writings. They are also expected to write a more detailed paragraph. They are also expected to know how to write a report of an event.

 

Grades 9-10:

Students will learn to perform synthesis analysis for two different articles. They will learn to use proper citations and make intercultural connections with different articles. They are expected to write with a clear introduction and conclusion. Their writing should follow a logical sequence.


Grades 11-12:

Students are expected to develop their own writing style. The course is also aiming to prepare them for university-level of writing.

颜教授教核心英文。分低,中,高三个程度。比较适合英文非母语的孩子们。颜教授也预备了测试题给学生们,可以评估孩子们目前的水平。




Computer Programming Course Descriptions/计算机编程课程简介: 


Python Intermediate level (for Grade 5+ or students with basic programming)

Learning core python and commonly used modules to create various applications. This class will cover full Object-Oriented Programming, and students will also have a lot of hands on assignments to exercise and improve programming skill levels.

这门课是给有基础的学生深入学习Python 和面向对象编程逻辑。会有一定量的编程作业巩固课堂的内容。根据学生的进度和需求,也会相应的加入竞赛的课题。

 

Python + Machine Learning ( for Grade 8+ or students with some programming )

This course teaches data science through the python programming language. This skills-based specialization is intended to apply statistical, machine learning, information visualization, text analysis, and social network analysis techniques through popular python toolkits such as pandas, matplotlib, scikit-learn, nltk, and networkx to gain insight into their data.

机器学习这门课是面向高年级的学生,需要有不错的编程基础和数学功底。本课程将讲授Python编程,数据的采集,分析,生成图形以及基础的Machine Learning的算法( supervised and unsupervised ).这门课会学习基础的机器学习,基础算法和广泛应用的模块来初探机器学习。

 

 

Java Mobile App Development

This course is for high school students (or students with some basic programming background); students learn how to program core features and classes from the Java programming language that are used in Android, which is the dominant platform for developing and deploying mobile device apps. In particular, this course covers key Java programming language features including data structures, Object Oriented Programming. Students will apply these Java features in the context of core Android components (such as Activities and basic UI elements) by applying common tools (such as Android Studio) needed to develop Java programs and useful Android apps. Students will work on several hands-on projects throughout the course, i.e., each week will require students to write solutions to programming assignments that reinforce the material covered in the class. There will be roughly 4-6 hours of student engagement time per week.

这门课是面向高中学生(或者有一定的编程基础的学生)。学生将学习Java在安卓上开发的编程,课程也会学到Java的核心。学生将使用Android studio 编写些实用的app。需要学生每星期投入4-6小时的时间完成编程作业。在学期结束,也就是明年6月底,学生将学会,不仅开发并且能够将自己的appGoogle play上上架。

 

C++ Programming  ( Grade 5+ or students with some programming background)

This class focuses on competitive programming. Students will start with basic C++, and work on algorithms. This class will do a lot of coding puzzles including history problems from the past competitions.

C++这门课会学习基础的编程和C++语言,重心放在学解决问题和算法上。学生需要写较多的程序解答题目。这课主要预备学生将要参加计算机竞赛。


Scratch + Micro Python (ages 7-10 ):

1 year of Scratch + Micro Python class. In the 1-year class, we will study self-defined functions, simulation of object oriented programming concepts, more useful application combined with Micro:bit; and then class will start to learn Micro Python with Micro:bit, which will prepare kids to move to industry programming language. ( Fall 2019 - Spring 2019)

在这一年的课程里,学生将深入学习Scratch和编程的逻辑,包括自定义函数,面向对象编程概念。后半年学习Micro Python,开发游戏和小应用,让学生过度到正式的编程语言的学习。

 

Scratch ( ages 5 – 7) : 最多6位孩子; Mon 6:15 -7:15

Introduction to programming, fundamental programming concepts will be covered. By creating animations, games, and applications (with Micro:Bit ), kids will learn the coding flow control, condition check, variable usage, communications between different codes, math logics etc. ( Fall term )

这门课是预备给小小孩,对游戏,卡通等感兴趣。每次1小时的课堂里,小朋友将通过学习和实现游戏和卡通,学习Scratch和编程的逻辑思维。

 


机器人编程课程简介/Robotics Programming Course Descriptions:


本机器人课程的核心是以STEAM(科学、技术、工程、艺术、数学)为主的创新教育。这是一门基于机器人编程的中级课程。使用STEAM跨学科的知识让学生可以学习到AI,IoT等多种知识。我们将利用CodyRocky和MBot机器人进行图像,传感器和游戏设计方面的编程。这个课程需求熟悉Events, Loop, Condition, Variable, Function,掌握基本Scratch的运用。

以项目的形式尝试完成他们感兴趣且与生活相关的问题,并从中找到解决问题的方法,全面锻炼逻辑思维、创新能力和团队合作等能力。
