2023 ICALC Awards

AMC 10/12 Contest Award

In the November 2023 American Mathematics Competition (AMC10/12), ICALC candidates have achieved another outstanding result – according to a rough count, seven of our students entered the American Invitational Mathematics Competition (AIME), and two of our students won the Achievement Award. One of them, Kelly Xu, earned a perfect score of 150 in the AMC 12B competition.

CIMC/CSMC Contest Award - 71% Win Rate

ICALC students had another outstanding year at the CIMC (G9/10) and CSMC (G11/G12) competitions held at the University of Waterloo in November 2023 – according to a rough count of 35 competitors, 25 won. ICALC students had another successful year – a rough count of 35 entries and 25 winners (a 71% win rate) in the CIMC (G9/10) and CSMC (G11/G12) competitions, which were designed specifically for students in Grades 9 and 10. iCALC’s students were of a very young age (as young as Grade 6) and showed great promise.

BCC Contest Award - 81% Win Rate / 62% Honor Roll

The BCC competition held at the University of Waterloo in November 2023 was an excellent success for ICALC students – according to an incomplete count, 26 juniors competed, 9 scored perfect scores (35% perfect score rate), and 16 made it to the national Honor Roll (62%). This competition is designed for students in 10th grade and younger, and ICALC’s contestants were on the lower end of the age spectrum (as low as 6th grade) and showed unlimited potential. At full count, we had six students advance to the American Invitational Mathematics Contest (AIME), and two students received achievement awards. One of them, Kelly Xu, earned a perfect score of 150 in the AMC 12B competition.

CLMC Contest Award - 80% Win Rate

In the CLMC competition organized by the Canadian Mathematical Society held in September 2023, iCALC students achieved outstanding results – 20 juniors competed and 16 won! The winning rate was a whopping 80%. This competition is designed for students in Grade 12 and below, and iCALC’s contestants were young (as low as Grade 6) and showed unlimited potential.

CJMC Contest Award - 89% Win Rate

In the CJMC competition held by the Canadian Mathematical Society in November 2023, iCALC students had another outstanding year – according to an incomplete count, 19 juniors competed and 17 won (an 89% win rate), with Sean Ye winning a national silver medal. The competition is designed for students in grades 8 and below, and iCALC’s youngest participants (as low as 4th grade) showed great potential.

The Math League contest is an educational contest designed for students in grades 4-12. The contest is designed to promote enjoyment and study of mathematics, and each contest covers topics appropriate to the contest grade level.

Mathematica -
83% Win Rate

In the Spring 2023 Global Mathematica Competition, G3-G9 competition, our students achieved very good results. At last count, we had 42 students participating in the competition, of which 35 (83%) received at least a Distinction, and 10 entered the National Honor Roll. Waterloo Fryer/ Galois / Hypatia / Euclid

CEMC contests are designed for Grades 5 to 12. CEMC contests are a great fit for students with a range of abilities—from learners who want to explore math and computer science and develop their confidence, to advanced students who want to stretch their limits.

The Fryer, Galois and Hypatia (FGH) Contests are a unique opportunity for participants to write a full-solution contest — a format that can help learners develop both problem-solving and communication skills. These fun and engaging contests encourage critical thinking as participants tackle problems that build to a larger, more complex task to solve in each question.

The Math League contest is an educational contest designed for students in grades 4-12. The contest is designed to promote enjoyment and study of mathematics, and each contest covers topics appropriate to the contest grade level.

Waterloo Pascal/ Cayley / Fermat

CEMC contests are designed for Grades 5 to 12. CEMC contests are a great fit for students with a range of abilities—from learners who want to explore math and computer science and develop their confidence, to advanced students who want to stretch their limits.

The Pascal, Cayley and Fermat (PCF) Contests are a fun opportunity for participants to explore the potential of mathematics and their role in it. Designed to be accessible both to those that have written math contests in the past and to those who haven’t, these multiple-choice contests can help learners build confidence and inspire them to get excited about math.

AMC 8 Contest Award

At the US Math Competition AMC8 Competition in January 2023, 4 of our students made it to the Global Honor Roll (top 5%), including Skyler Yang (G5) who made it to the Honor Roll of Distinction (top 1%). The list of the winning students is as follows:
