English Course Descriptions
Guiding younger students to comprehensively enhance their literary analysis and writing skills, exploring various literary genres and writing forms. Students will study multiple artistic forms, including poetry, prose, fiction, and essays. Through this course, students will not only acquire core skills in literary analysis and writing but also learn how to showcase their academic and creative abilities through research and expression.
Focusing on the two advanced areas of Argumentative Writing and Narrative Writing, the course will delve deeper step by step: In the first stage, students will learn how to write persuasive opinion paragraphs and essays, laying a solid foundation for effective argumentation. They will master how to clearly express their viewpoints and win the readers’ agreement with logic and persuasion. In the second stage, students will shift to narrative writing, analyzing the works of famous authors to further enhance their literary analysis skills. The course also places special emphasis on developing practical writing skills, including writing reports, conducting research, and mastering the MLA format, thereby building a strong foundation for academic and professional writing. Through this course, senior students will not only deepen their understanding of literary elements but also gain stronger skills in writing, analysis, and presenting their work, laying a solid foundation for future development.
SSAT + Pre IB
ICALC's specialized preparation class for exams. Targeting students in grades 6-8, this class focuses on core areas such as writing, reading comprehension, and verbal skills. It aims to help students equip themselves comprehensively and efficiently, tackling difficult points systematically, refining their skills with precision, and ensuring that students navigate exams with ease. The course is designed with the difficulty level aligned to that of 7th-grade students. In this semester, we will fully support students in preparing for the exams scheduled for this fall.
