ICALC 2019Summer Book Club ended successfully. This is the original intention of our Book Club. Later it was widely praised. A lot of students in the first and second grades joined. We have to increase multiple age groups and time periods.
Social Book Club is aimed at students in grades 3-7, and the discussion will focus on the story itself and readers’ feelings. Each time the teacher will lead students to read different content, which can be poetry, fable and novel. The purpose of Social Book Club is to increase students’ vocabulary and cultivate students’ interest in English reading. The teacher will teach words and pronunciation as well as basic reading skills. During the reading process, teachers will join activities such as role-playing to help students understand the reading materials and increase the fun. Every time, there will be questions for students to discuss and let students express their opinions freely.
Academic Book Club is aimed at students in grades 8-12, and the discussion will focus on the storyline, character design, humanities and historical and cultural implications. Teachers will lead students to read stories, novels and Shakespeare plays. The purpose of Academic Book Club is to improve students’ reading comprehension and literary appreciation ability. Teachers will lead students to explore, discuss and even debate some profound literary themes, which will lay a foundation for the study of English classes in higher grades. When reading Shakespeare plays, the teacher will play some video excerpts to help students understand.
All reading materials can be found on our Google Classroom. You can log in at 5rn50ir .

Parents’ perceptions
Today at the book club, I heard a part of the children feel so happy. From Pandora’s box, Teacher Sophia connected the Chinese zodiac signs with the 12 Greek gods.
Another group of teachers Ruthann talked about a Greek god of road from mount olympus, (her parents’ house is just below the foot of the mountain), and the two teachers talked about this mythological story to attract the children’s attention.
The 3rd and 4th grade group read today is the origin of the national statue, and it is also a very vivid story plot.
Another academic club brought by Sophia teacher, read Charles today, from the literary perspective and from the top and bottom to infer the students through the three-page question to learn in-depth study analysis
Thank you teachers for your hard work, especially Sophia’s 3 sessions in a row, very hard
Second week 7/27/2019
Hello everyone, our Academic Book Club starting at 12 this Saturday will read “The Lady, or the Tiger.” This short story is very good from a literary appreciation point of view, but the Vocabulary in it may have a little Difficult, children can read it in advance. According to the situation of the first meeting, I found that everyone’s reading level is very high, so this week should be no problem discussing this
In the Social Book Club that starts in the afternoon, at 2:45pm and 4:30pm, G5-7 children will read “Thank You Ma’am.” This is a medium difficulty, suitable for children with a certain reading level to discuss
